2018 Entry Terms and Conditions

  1. The prize money of $30,000 is to be awarded to the artist of the single winning entry. This National acquisitive prize is for a painting inspired by the Australian Landscape, painted in the last 12 months and not previously exhibited at an art prize.
    • $3,000 Honourable Mention prize sponsored by CHRIS ANTICO.
    • $1,000 Highly Commended Prize (gift certificate) sponsored by THE SYDNEY ART STORE.
    • $1,000 People’s Choice Award (gift certificate) sponsored by CHARVIN OILS.
    • Print Prize sponsored by UNSW ART & DESIGN who will offer a selected artist the opportunity to create a limited edition print under the tutelage of Michael Kempson.
    • We are proud to announce an inaugural prize from DEFIANCE GALLERY who will offer two selected artists, who have been selected as finalists, the opportunity to have an exhibition with DEFIANCE GALLERY at Mary Place Gallery in Sydney in 2019. The 2 artists will also receive an invitation to ‘Giverny’, the NOCK ART FOUNDATION Residency in Queenstown, New Zealand during 2019. They will be given the opportunity to spend 3 weeks there with studio facilities and access to a vehicle during the stay. Flights are included. The recipients will receive studio visits by the gallery directors and mentorship will be available from Defiance Gallery Artists and previous Paddington Art Prize winners and finalists including Tim Allen, Ann Thomson, Charmaine Pike and Dan Kyle.
    • Sofala Cottage will offer a selected artist a 1 week retreat at their beautiful guest house in Sofala, NSW.
  3. The PADDINGTON ART PRIZE is open to Australian citizens or residents of 12 months or more who are over the age of 18. Finalists may need to provide identification if requested.
  4. Marlene Antico OAM and members of her immediate family are ineligible to enter.
  5. Online Entries must be submitted by 6pm, Sunday 19th August 2018. Images should be a minimum of 1000 x 750 pixels at 72 dpi or greater. File size of each image not to exceed 2MB. File name/s should correspond with the title of the work/s on the entry form.
  6. SELECTED FINALISTS PAINTINGS ONLY must be delivered between 9am and 1pm on Thursday 13th September, to Menzies Art Brands – 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington NSW 2033. NO CRATES PLEASE
  7. A $50 entry fee shall be paid for a single work entry and $90 for a two work entry. Payment can be by PayPal or cheque/money order made payable to The Paddington Art Prize. No receipts will be given. Your automated PayPal response, is your receipt.
  8. A limit of two works per artist can be submitted.
  9. Entry fee is non-refundable and contributes to administration and handling.
  10. A Painting must not be larger than 1.5 x 2 metres including frame (or equivalent size/area ratio). A Painting can consist of multiple parts but must not exceed overall size limits. Media used may be oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media/collage or pastel.
  11. SELECTED FINALISTS PAINTINGS must be CLEARLY MARKED on the reverse with the artist’s name, address, contact details, the title of the work, medium, size and the current retail price; and FULL COLLECTION DETAILS. PAINTINGS SOLD PRIOR TO THE EXHIBITION WILL BE INELIGIBLE. ALL PAINTINGS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE.
  12. The Paddington Art Prize, Marlene Antico OAM and its agents will exercise all due care with the works submitted, but will not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered whatsoever to any art work while in transit or under its control. Each entrant shall indemnify the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE, Marlene Antico OAM and its agents against loss or damage suffered to his/her art work whatsoever. Each artist is responsible for his/her own insurance cover.
  13. All artists selected as finalists authorise The Paddington Art Prize and Marlene Antico OAM formally and irrevocably, to publish their works free of copyright, totally or partly, in all publications (catalogues, folders, posters, slide shows, brochures etc) related to this art prize, as well as on the official website or social media.
  14. The Paddington Art Prize reserves the right to exhibit the SELECTED FINALISTS’ ARTWORK ONLY for the exhibition period. All exhibited artworks not sold during this period MUST BE COLLECTED between 9am and 1pm on Wednesday 26th September from Menzies Art Brands – 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington NSW 2033.
  15. The Paddington Art Prize commission on all sales is 40%.
  16. The judges’ decision is final on all aspects of awarding the Prizes, and no correspondence or appeal will be entered into or considered.
  17. A decision by a majority of the judges on any issue shall be deemed to be a valid and binding decision of the judges as a whole.
  18. FINALISTS ONLY will be notified on Monday 27th August 2018 by email. The Finalist List will be available on the website later that day.
  19. Freight costs and all other charges relating to delivery and collection of artworks entered into the Paddington Art Prize are the sole responsibility of the artist. Artworks will not be accepted unless delivered and returned free of all freight and other charges.
  20. Any paintings not collected after the exhibition will be collected and stored at International Art Services at the artist’s expense.
