2019 Entry Terms and Conditions

IMPORTANT DATES:

Entries Open: Thursday, 7 February 2019

Finalists Announced: Tuesday, 24 September 2019

Delivery of Finalist’s Paintings: Monday, 14 October 2019, 9am – 1pm

Opening Night: Thursday, 17 October 2019, 6 – 8pm

Exhibition DURATION: 17 – 27 October 2019, 10am – 5pm

Collection of (UNSOLD) Finalist’s Paintings: Monday, 28 October 2019, 9am – 1pm

PRIZES:

  1. The prize money of $30,000 is to be awarded to the artist of the single winning entry. This National acquisitive prize is for a painting inspired by the Australian Landscape, painted in the last 12 months and not previously exhibited at an art prize.
  2. NON ACQUISITIVE PRIZES.
    • $3,000 Honourable Mention prize sponsored by CHRIS ANTICO.
    • $1,000 Highly Commended Prize (gift certificate).
    • $1,000 People’s Choice Award (gift certificate) sponsored by FINE ART IMAGING.
    • Print Prize sponsored by UNSW ART & DESIGN who will offer a selected artist the opportunity to create a limited edition print under the tutelage of Michael Kempson.
    • Sofala Cottage will offer a selected artist a 1 week retreat at their beautiful guest house in Sofala, NSW.
    • The DEFIANCE GALLERY PRIZE which offers two unrepresented finalists an exhibition at Mary Place Gallery, Sydney. The selected artists will also be invited to spend 3 weeks at ‘Giverny’, the NOCK ART FOUNDATION Residency in Queenstown, New Zealand, including studio facilities, vehicle access, flights and mentoring by the gallery directors of Defiance Gallery.

       

ELIGIBITITY:

  1. The PADDINGTON ART PRIZE is open to Australian citizens or residents of 12 months or more who are over the age of 18. Finalists may need to provide identification if requested.
  2. Marlene Antico OAM and members of her immediate family are ineligible to enter.

SPECIFICATIONS & CRITERIA:

  1. A painting must not be larger than 1.5 x 2 metres including frame (or equivalent size/area ratio). A painting can consist of multiple parts but must not exceed overall size limits.
  2. Media used may be oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel or mixed media/collage.
  3. A painting may be a partnership between two (or more) artists, with the understanding that any prize awarded is divided equally amongst the partnership.

SUBMISSIONS:

  1. Online entries must be submitted by 6pm, Sunday 15th September 2019.
  2. A limit of two (2) works per artist can be submitted.
  3. A $50 entry fee shall be paid for a single work and $90 for two works. Payment can be by PayPal or by cheque/money order made payable to the Paddington Art Prize.
  4. No receipts will be given. Your automated PayPal response is your receipt.
  5. The entry fee is non-refundable and contributes to administration and handling.
  6. The artwork image(s) submitted for each entry must be:
    • a minimum of 750 pixels on the shortest side
    • file size of each image not exceeding 2MB
    • saved in .jpg or .png format
  7. File name/s should include the artist/s surname then first name followed by the title of the work as listed on the entry form, with each word separated by an underscore “_” character, i.e., Surname_Firstname_Title_of_painting.jpg
  8. Entry details CANNOT BE CHANGED once entries are processed. Only finalists will have the opportunity to amend minor entry details for their selected artwork.
  9. By entering the Paddington Art Prize, you agree to become a subscriber to our regular newsletter. You may unsubscribe from the newsletters at any time.

INFORMATION FOR FINALISTS:

  1. FINALISTS ONLY will be notified on Tuesday 24th September 2019 by email.
  2. The list of finalists will be available on the website later that day.
  3. SELECTED FINALIST’S PAINTINGS ONLY must be delivered between 9am and 1pm sharp on Monday 14th October, to Menzies Art Brands – 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington NSW 2033. NO CRATES PLEASE.
  4. Freight costs and all other charges relating to delivery and collection of artworks entered into the Paddington Art Prize are the sole responsibility of the artist. Artworks will not be accepted unless delivered and returned free of all freight and other charges.
  5. SELECTED FINALISTS PAINTINGS must be CLEARLY MARKED on the reverse with the artist’s name, address, contact details, the title of the work, medium, size and the current retail price. Delivery and collection details will be confirmed for all finalists.
  6. ALL PAINTINGS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE throughout the exhibition. PAINTINGS SOLD PRIOR TO THE EXHIBITION WILL BE INELIGIBLE.
  7. The Paddington Art Prize has sole agency for the duration of the exhibition. The Paddington Art Prize commission on all sales is 40%.
  8. The Paddington Art Prize, Marlene Antico OAM and its agents will exercise all due care with the works submitted but will not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered whatsoever to any art work while in transit or under its control. Each entrant shall indemnify the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE, Marlene Antico OAM and its agents against any loss or damage suffered to his/her art work whatsoever. Each artist is responsible for his/her own insurance cover.
  9. All artists selected as finalists authorise The Paddington Art Prize and Marlene Antico OAM formally and irrevocably, to publish their works free of copyright, totally or partly, in all publications (catalogues, folders, posters, slide shows, brochures etc) related to this art prize, as well as on the official website or social media.
  10. The Paddington Art Prize reserves the right to exhibit the SELECTED FINALISTS’ ARTWORKS ONLY for the exhibition period.
  11. All exhibited artworks not sold during this period MUST BE COLLECTED between 9am and 1pm on Monday 28th October from Menzies Art Brands – 12 Todman Avenue, Kensington NSW 2033.
  12. Any paintings not collected after the exhibition will be stored at International Art Services at the artist’s expense.

JUDGING:

  1. The judges’ decision is final on all aspects of awarding the Prizes, and no correspondence or appeal will be entered into or considered.
  2. A decision by a majority of the judges on any issue shall be deemed to be a valid and binding decision of the judges as a whole.
